Your Learning & Personal Growth

Did you know lifelong learning can:
- Increase mental well-being by helping prevent depression;
- Keep you relevant and employable in your trade; and
- Reduce your risk for dementia.
Research has shown that lifelong learning contributes to a sense of fulfillment. It’s also good for job security. Why do we have unemployed people in a market where employers scream “shortage”? SKILLS.
To increase your employability, expand your skills and certifications. You have access to free continuing education through our union training centers. Training courses and programs not only increase your work opportunities but also improve your mental and physical well-being by providing benefits associated with lifelong learning. Increasing your marketability also can reduce fears of not being able to support yourself and/or your family.

Take Advantage of Free Training:
Lots of work is coming our way, and if you want to be ready to jump on opportunities, it’s a good idea to be up to date with the latest training, which is free from your union.
Reach out to your local training center’s coordinator and/or your business representative to find out what projects are coming to your area and to let them know what you want to do. They will walk you through the process step by step.
In general, it’s best to have current certifications in: mobile elevated work platforms, OSHA 10 and OSHA 30, fall protection, and scaffold user.
And it isn’t all about work. Maybe there is something you have always wanted to learn to do, like flyfishing. Learning a new skill gives you a perfect excuse to plan an adventure.
