Donnie Newton retires as Local 216 business representative

Local 216 Business Representative Donnie Newton retired at the end of last year. Newton served as a business rep for 16 years and joined the union in 1978. He worked as a carpenter and millwright for the first 10 years of his career before focusing solely on the millwright trade. The council presented a plaque to former Local 216 Business Representative Donnie Newton at his last staff and delegate meeting in December.

As a business rep, Newton said he learned from the organization’s leadership. “It was an honor and privilege to work with the staff and represent the members,” he said.

So far in retirement, he’s enjoying disc golf and projects around the house. He and his wife plan to travel to Europe after she retires in a year.

Newton said he’s enjoying the free time. “It’s not that I have nothing to do, but I have all the time to do what I want to do,” he said.
