Council Meeting an All-Around Success

It was an all-around successful meeting for delegates of the Central South Carpenters Regional Council recently. So, it was fitting for one of New Orleans’ best brass bands - two members of which are sons of a Local 1846 carpenter - to give an all-around southern welcome to the Council leaders.

Central South Council Rep. Emanuel Mitchell, Sr., arranged for the All-Around Brass Band to surprise delegates with an impromptu mini-concert. Mitchell’s sons, Emanuel Jr. and Isreal, are original members of the band, and began their music life with lessons at 6 and 7 years old with their uncle, Keith Hart Sr.

As their lessons increased, so did their talent, and in 2013 the Mitchell brothers established what has now become an immensely popular seven-piece band that plays all over New Orleans, at weddings, parties, second lines and all through out the French Quarter.

The Central South Carpenters thanks the All Around Brass Band for their hospitality and entertainment!

  • Emanuel Mitchell Jr., 17, trumpet/bass drum/leader
  • Isreal Mitchell, 15, trumpet

Their resume is impressive:

  • They learned traditional music from the Treme Brass Band from a program call Music For All Ages, with the National Jazz Parks, where they teach kids to play by ear.
  • They now teach other kids how to play traditional music when they fill in for the Treme Brass Band.
  • They traveled to Rome, New York to play for the Mayor to honor America’s Day.
